[ QUOTE ]
I believe it's the one where bender gets lost in space and the little universe grows on him. Fry goes to some woman (forget) who says some quote like "Have you heard of the sacred order of the Monks of XXXXXX" (who are actively searching the universe for God).

Fry's response "I've not heard of them". (Like - at least that's somehing, right?)

[/ QUOTE ]

Also my favorite quote. I yearn for opportunities to use it in real life.

The prior line is: "Have you heard of the God's Eye Dashuva? (sp?)"

Then one the other great, great Futurama quotes follows later in the episode: "This is without a doubt the least likely thing that has ever happened"

I watched this episode again two days ago - my fav. quote was when Bender and God are talking about doing things without others noticing

God: Bender, being God isn't easy. If you do too much, people get dependent on you. And if you do nothing, they lose hope. You have to use a light touch, like a safecracker or a pickpocket.
Bender: Or a guy who burns down a bar for the insurance money.
God: Yes, if he makes it look like an electrical thing. If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all. -----

really really awesome.

Def. written with a ton of callbacks for the observant fan, but w/ a really fun story for the casual fan.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ugh, I really hate it when a show is just cruising off their old jokes. Basically how family guy was when it came out. Hopefully the callbacks aren't so obtrusive.

Yeah, this was pretty terrible. Just a non-stop barrage of fanservice(and very little of that being subtle nods, most of it was broad "DO YOU REMEMBER THE EPISODE WITH THE MOBSTERS!?!?! HOW ABOUT THAT TIME WE HAD AL GORE?!?!?! ALSO ROBOT SANTA!!!!!" Please stop congratulating me for watching your show.) with little to no funny. The plot was lazy and lame, very few of the one-off jokes seemed fresh(East Coast/West Coast rap jokes have been dated since what, 1999?), and it was really obvious that they were planning on cutting it into episodes in the future by the way subplots were introduced and resolved.

Zoidberg was gold as always("Yes... Now."), but even the big reveal seemed like a rehash of a previous big reveal.

All of these eps had, at some point, already been called back within the run of the show.

Im not saying that makes them good, but, those types of references are pretty standard for the show.

There is a difference between an isolated callback as one joke and 90 minutes of constant references to itself.

Futurama is generally not reference-to-itself humor. I would watch Family Guy if I wanted that.

Perhaps we'll just agree to disagree, but, ignoring the first few minutes of Fox jokes, I would imagine this was roughly on par w/ roswell that ends well wrt to callbacks/self-ref / minute.

I'll agree to nothing of the sort
