Take the last chip?
Today I was playing $5-10nl and the following scenario occured. I was in BB w/ 4,6. The flop was 4d,6h,Qd. I lead out for $65, there was a raise to $165 a caller and I made it $465. The raiser folded and the other player called. He had $5 left. The turn was a 4 and I bet his last $5. I was in the one seat and the dealer commented to me, jokingly, "I can't believe you took his last $5." I didn't think it was wrong really and I don't feel bad about it in the slightest, but I wonder how many people would have taken the last chip?

Re: Take the last chip?
If this is an unknown fish, I sometimes ask him if he wants to put the last chip in first. Letting him keep the last chip as an act of "mercy" isn't a bad play. He might be slightly more likely to rebuy and your image as being "one of the guys" will help you have more fun and hopefully get gambled with a bit more.
Any of that stuff is worth $5 imo. |

Re: Take the last chip?
True. He had rebought twice so far for the minimum, $300...after this he rebought for more. I didn't even think about it until the dealer said something, but then I wondered if I should have milked the last $5 or not?

Re: Take the last chip?
I voted yes. My experience has been that if I don't bet it, they bet it at me anyway. Having said that, if I guy was in for all but $5 against me and told me he wanted to hold on to the $5 (to buy a drink, whatever), that would be cool. Anyone who donates $100 or more to my stack is entitled to a free drink on me. If I take the whole stack, I'm still buying.

just bet it dark as soon as you find out that your reraise didn't cover his whole stack

Re: Take the last chip?
I wouldn't.
The goodwill, laughter, and general lightened mood of the table by leaving him his last $5 is well worth it. |

Re: Take the last chip?
I have yet to see a dealer hesitate to blind off someone's last chip. What a BS comment.

Re: Take the last chip?
I'm surprised that when he counted out for the call and found that he only had $5 behind he didn't go ahead and put it in then.
