Default Stud in Cardrooms

Obviously with the explosion of Hold Em'...stud is a rare find around the Chicago area card rooms for me. They offer a "1 to 5" game which rarely ever gets any list

They had that game @ The mirage on my last visit, and in Tunica @ The Horshoe, but I opted not too play.

Is it a decent game? I just was unfamiliar with the betting, so I didnt know how to stratedgize for it, not that it may have even mattered due to the cliental in the game.

I would love to see Stud make a comeback, and get some 5/10 or 10/20 games regularly, especially in Vegas rooms

When played with a $.50 ante, like at Foxwoods, $1-5 can be a decent game. When played with no ante, it tends to suck.

Stud is still played a fair amount on the east coast, but I wouldn't look for a big comeback in Vegas any time soon. Canterbury Park in Minnesota has had a $6/12 stud/8 game pretty regularly lately. The jackpot is currently over $16,000. We'll see if the game still goes after it gets hit a couple of times.

Aces full of Tens or better beaten by quads or better.

So if your aces full of tens lose to less than quads you don't win the jackpot?

In hold'em, AT losing to AK on an AAKTx board would not be a jackpot hand, smart-ass.

If most people are like me, they'd be too embarrased to play stud since there is no way I could remember what exposed cards were folded. On-line it's not as bad, but at a live table there's no way. I admit I'm just not intelligent enough to remember the exposed cards. Stud just requires too much more skill than Hold'em, which means it will never be adopted by the masses

It wasn't all that long ago that stud was the most popular form of poker. And who's going to get embarrassed about not remembering cards? It's not like they give you a quiz after the hand. I certainly don't remember all the folded cards.

Stud was probably the most popular till what...02 or 03?

So, whats the best way to bet/play a 1to 5 game? I just never took the time to study it, so I didnt feel comfartable playing it.

And you dont have to remmeber "every exposed card" I usually figure out what I have, and whats out there that effects me...and what my oppenents have and what effects them

IE...if you have say black tens in the hole, and a Ah exposed...Im looking at those 2 cards and Ks-Js.

If 2 people call, one with 4c and one with 8h...im looking for 4s 8s and clubs and hearts. Im not interested in small spades or diamonds as much. You gotta put them on big pair in hole, 1 3 flush or maybe a straight draw...but there betting will be obvious on 4th street to a straight

This is a stud forum. Are we using two decks?

And I am not a smartass. Really.

Well, maybe a little.
