Flush versus Likely Trips
On 6th, I thght the fact that 2 tens and a deuce were out discounted the likelihood of a full boat for Seat 5 enough for me to raise. (In the unlikely event Seat 8 caught a flush, the Ace of Spades had already been folded.)
What if I had caught the Ace of Diamonds on 5th, then a blank on 6th? Wld it have been correct to call 5th to see whether Seat 5 paired, then to raise otherwise? 7 Card Stud High ($1/$2), Ante $0.10, Bring-In $0.50 (converter) 3rd Street - (0.80 SB) Hero: 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___brings-in Seat 2: xx xx 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___folds Seat 3: xx xx J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___calls Seat 4: xx xx K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___folds Seat 5: xx xx 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___calls Seat 6: xx xx A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___folds Seat 7: xx xx 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___folds Seat 8: xx xx Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___calls 4th Street - (2.80 SB) Hero: 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___calls Seat 3: xx xx J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___calls Seat 5: xx xx 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___bets Seat 8: xx xx Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___calls 5th Street - (5.40 BB) Hero: 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___calls Seat 3: xx xx J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___calls Seat 5: xx xx 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___bets Seat 8: xx xx Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___calls 6th Street - (9.40 BB) Hero: 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___raises Seat 3: xx xx J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___folds Seat 5: xx xx 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___bets___calls Seat 8: xx xx Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___calls___folds River - (14.40 BB) Hero: 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___bets Seat 5: xx xx 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] xx___checks___calls Total pot: (16.40 BB) |

He paired his door card and bet every street into multiple callers.

[ QUOTE ]
What if I had caught the Ace of Diamonds on 5th, then a blank on 6th? Wld it have been correct to call 5th to see whether Seat 5 paired, then to raise otherwise? [/ QUOTE ] I think that seeing if you can eek out extra bets from seat 3 and seat 8 is more important than worrying about seat 5 making a full house. Those two players may not call if you are showing three suited cards on fifth, but it is something to at least consider. If they have two pair, you might want to raise them, but if they are drawing to inferior hands and will stay so long as you don't define your hand as a likely flush, then you might consider delaying your raise. |

Re: Flush versus Likely Trips
Whether to call on fourth depends on your opponent, but folding really can't be too far wrong. If he plays a lot of hands, you can continue. If he is not the sort to play split Fours, you might continue.
If you hit the flush on fifth, go ahead and raise, especially if there's a caller in there. I don't think that that's a time to slow-play. |
