Default Help on this hand, please.

I am trying to teach myself to play stud8 and played this hand tonight. Thoughts and comments, please. I don't know how proper any of my play was, so I'd love to hear thoughts from you more experienced split players.

Thanks so much.

This all looks fine to me, although you should keep in mind that I've had a few. If you feel uncomfortable, get Ray Zee's book and read it twenty or thirty times.

I will say that this looks like my kind of game.

Does my bet on the river accomplish anything at all? I couldn't possibly have any fold equity in a game like this and he's calling for sure with his hand (and I have no high). That's the part of this hand I really think I played badly and cost myself an extra bet when he caught perfect perfect.

Every once in a while, I'll venture over to one of the small-stakes hold'em forums, where a lot of posts read something like this:

I lost a hand!!! When should I have folded???

Sometimes, you just have to lose a hand.

On the river, it looks like you're up against a couple of weakish high hands, or at least a couple of guys who don't have very much. You simply have to bet. Once in a while, you'll con both of them into folding, and you'll scoop the pot. This is a major coup. Most of the time, however, you're looking for two calls. One of the other guys will take the high half of the pot, and you'll chop up the third man, and you don't much care who's who. Having this guy check-raise the third man off of his hand is unexpected, but them's the breaks. Both of your opponents had face cards in the door. I wouldn't expcet either of them to have a low. I'm not especially surprised that one did, but again, them's the breaks. Really, you played it fine, and things didn't work out. It's an occupational hazard.

I'm not sure about 3rd street, I'm still busy remembering whats the best starting hand concepts but I love all the other streets including the river. Thats what I love about Stud format games, its so easy to apply the concepts learned in TOP. Once you get past 3rd street its all smooth sailing for the most part.

Glad I make sense to someone. I should drink more often.
