UPS recommendation

I'm a SNG player and need a UPS for when the power goes out. I'll need it to keep my computer, modem and 2 flat panels going for 45 minutes at most. People are telling me I need 1800-2000 VA. Any suggestions?

1500VA should work fine, but you should use the calculator at APC.

APC makes very good UPSes, and I'd recommend any of their desktop products that fit the bill.

Definitely. I've had mine for 4 or 5 years now without any problems. Plus it got me through school without ever having to worry about the hydro going out and knocking out my alarm in the middle of the night.

APC is solid, but you may be able to save some money by going with another brand like Tripp-Lite. They have an excellent reputation and are typically cheaper than APC.

Those things are extremely heavy though. Shipping costs must be astronomical and cut away a huge part of the savings, no?

If your power drops, it seems unlikely to me that you'll stay online, even if your personal modem has power; there's gotta be other devices between you and the server that went out too.

It makes sense to have battery power, but I'd think it's more for the computer during those off/on flashes; I don't think you'll be able to continue playing through a long outage.
