Default AdultFriendFinder

Article some of you might find interesting.

"Adultfriendfinder -- tops in revenue among the 40 sites run by Conru under the holding company Various -- claims 25 million active users, an undisclosed percentage of whom pay up to $50 a month for its services."

"reportedly generates hundreds of millions of dollars a year in revenue and is highly profitable."

"As for his wealth, Conru, who owns 90 percent of Various, says only that he is worth more than $100 million."

I think it is crazy that this is the 61st most popular site on the entire internet, atleast according to alexa.com. Simply amazing.

EDIT: Not to mention they have a million variations of the same exact site (friendfinder.com, alt.com, amigos.com, etc....) that are all in the top 2,000 as well. All these sites combined might top google or yahoo.

yeah, i read that yesterday. I think it's pretty interesting that he is "worth" over 100m, but can't find anyone to buy him out/ take him public. isn't that like owning a piece of commercial property w/ a huge lockout clause on your financing?

Soss,

Based on the margins in the business, would not be surprised at all if he has liquid net worth > $100M. The value of is equity is likely >>>$100M. And while he can't exit in a number of traditional ways, for this type of cashflow, he can definitely exit to private buyers at a discount to valuations of comparable non-adult businesses.

I'm sure investors realize that like 99% of their registered users are inactive. I get like 200 spam e-mails a week from their affiliates with various scams to try to get me to sign up. I'm guessing most of their users signed up through one of those and then never logged in again. The "undisclosed" percentage who pay $50/month are probably idiots that signed up for some kind of recurring subscription and then forgot about it. I'm sure he makes a lot of money off the thing, but I really doubt it's sustainable or that his user base is very leverageable.

El D,

Why wouldn't a PE firm or Hedge Fund buy this site?
