Default LC - Observation About Mini-raises at Different Buy-ins

Over the past 12 months I've slowly worked my way up through the Stars $5.50's to the point where I'm now cracking into the $55's.

An interesting thing I've noticed is that at the lowest buy-in ($5.50) mini-raises are very common. They're slightly less common at the $11's, uncommon at the $22's, and rare at the $33's.

I've noticed at the $55's a large increase in the number of people mini-raising. I know at the low buy-ins mini-raises generally meant "I'm a donk." I'm still trying to figure out what they mean at the $55's.

I've played every level up to the 55s on party and I see them do it at every level. It usually still means they are a donk.

Yup...but still frustrating as hell. The fact that their so goddam frustrating almost lead me to believe that they may actually be a good play. That is until I see how many times they get called and get the players in a heap load of trouble.

Basically I root people to minraises, so long as I ain't BB.

I see it at every level at Stars, just the frequency seemed to be much less at each buy-in as I worked my way up until I got to the $55's where the frequency seemed to greatly increase again.

Could just be a sample size/variance thing though because I have not played a great number of $55's.

If you think the min raises at the higher levels means the player is a donk then you are mistaken.

Players are much more aware of how much power a chip wields at different levels of the tourney and adjust accordingly. I like to call the minraise the "machete" because if done properly in early or mid position you will oftentimes cause many hands that could call your QJs to fold.
