Tax in Australia
I'm going to seek some professional advice, but I'm just curious what the law is in Australia. I know money made from gambling in a casino is tax free, but what about money won playing poker online?
If money made from online poker IS tax free in Australia, then what about if it's my primary source of income? I imagine I'd pay tax then. Is this correct? |

Re: Tax in Australia
kp has provided the perfect link.
to clarify, i think there is an incorrect assumption in your op - there's nothing in tax law that distinguishes on the basis of the location of where you make money. rather, it is based on the method. thus, the discussion in the linked thread equally applies to offline gambling as online gambling. edit: this is not taxation advice. you should see an accountant and get professional advice and not rely upon anonymous schmucks on an offshore internet message board like myself. the judge will laugh at you if you try to rely on this in court and you get it wrong. |
