Default Simple car question

The brake warning light on my dashboard came on yesterday, and I'm not really sure what it means. I just had the brake pads replaced in August, so those should be good. What triggers this, a loss in brake fluid pressure or what?

If your e-brake is off, then you have low pressure in the system, yes. Usually a leak of some kind.

Mine recently did this also and I just added some brake fluid and it went away. When I checked the brake fluid it wasnt low, I only added a very little bit but that seemed to do the trick.

the light will never come on just because your pads/drums are worn out.
low fluid may be an answer
is your emergency brake on?
its not the ABS light is it? there are sensors that can go bad, but i dont think the regular brake light comes on.

Mine does every 8 months, put new pads on, and the light goes off.

i stand corrected!!
but this may be a function of the fluid level getting low and increasing when the new pads are put on.
and why the hell are you changing brake pads every 8 months?

It's a 2003 Dodge Stratus Coupe, but you are sorta correct in your orginal statement, it doesn't come on because the pads are low, it comes on because the pressure becomes lower and it knows that the pads need changed (this is what a presume at any rate)
