It does sort of seem that way. It's like she was so absorbed with her job and leading her meetings on that day that she forgot about the most important thing in the world.

I think I read that many of these cases involve mid-to-upper class professionals. Apparently their mind is on their job obligations and not the pumpkin in the rear seat

Or she's lying which is the simplest and most likely reason.

Now why she isn't being called on it I have no idea.

Esad, how is she lying? You mean about being distracted and thinking that her husband had already dropped off the baby?

I think he means lying like how Liz Carroll or Susan Smith lied after they killed their children.

EDIT: errrr...guess not exactly the same, but if she gets away with this wouldn't leaving kids in a car become a legal way of killing them?

The fair thing for her to do is commit suicide. It saves the state the expense of a trial and sets things right in the world.

wow this is really disgusting

the same prosecutor in this case charged someone in a similar circumstance in 2000.

From blog containing link to court case
"Jerry Bittner was indicted in March 2000 on one count each of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering. The charges stemmed from a series of events that occurred on June 23, 1998 and resulted in the death of his six-month-old daughter, Serena. That day, upon Bittner's return home from work at 6:30 p.m., it was discovered that Serena had been left in the family's van in the driveway for more than an hour with an outside temperature of eighty-four degrees Fahrenheit."

Of course the cases are a little bit different(Bittner lied about what happened), but it's still ridiculous.

According to the prosecutor, under Ohio law "a mistake is not a crime".

[ QUOTE ]
Leaving the child in the car for the work day was "a substantial lapse of due care" but did not meet the definition of reckless conduct necessary for prosecution, said Clermont County Prosecutor Don White.
.

"...Cecilia's mother simply, albeit tragically, forgot that Cecilia was asleep in her car seat when she arrived at work early Thursday morning," White said in a statement released by his office. "As bad as that appears, it is not a perverse disregard of a known risk."

[/ QUOTE ]

Lounge lawyers, what does this mean? The prosecutor says that the

"Ohio Supreme Court says negligence is not the standard for this type of crime."

[/ QUOTE ]

the point being made is that completely forgetting that your kid is in the car is different than knowingly leaving your kid in the car because you plan to come back really fast

She said going to get donuts distracted her from her daily routine. The truth is that it was likely making her late so she didn't have time to drop off the kid.

Probable Scenario - She left the kid in the car because she didn't have time and thought she'd just go out and take the kid to day care later or get her. Got caught in meetings and forgot about it. As you said how can you backup an SUV, etc and not notice the kid?

IME, in cases like the person is almost always not telling the whole truth.
