capturing video
I'm trying to figure out how to capture video from my mini dv cam. I've got it hooked up via firewire, but when I hit "capture video" in windows movie maker, it says "no capture device found. Anybody got experience with this stuff? The camera doesn't show up in "my computer" when I hook it up...should it?

Re: capturing video
do you have the software installed for the camera (drivers)?
also, can a "mini dv cam" capture live video feed like a webcam? (which it sounds like you are describing.) I mean, I don't have one, but I thought they were recording and then transferring to a PC, not actually capturing live on the PC. |

Re: capturing video
My camera is *supposed* to be plug and play. Even checked with Canon and they say so(after futiley checking for drivers on the web and digging up the software that was included with the camera).
I'm not trying to use it as a cam(although I believe you can), I'm just trying to get what I've recorded onto my computer. |

Re: capturing video
By any chance are you on Vista?
I learned today that Sony won't be releasing a USB driver from the mini-DV Handycams for Vista. So, I'll be purchasing a firewire cable and hoping this works. Sorry Mom, your DVD of the grandkids for Mother's Day will be a little late |

Re: capturing video
I'm using XP, but my camera is several years old. I'm thinking of just getting a new one and seeing how that goes.
