Default Day 3

This morning the alarm went off at 7, then 3 minutes later the machine-gun pecking on the drain pipe started.

My whole perspective has changed. For the first time, I felt Woody and I were working together. Woody cannot change what he is, or thousands of years of evolution (apologies to any creationists), or wanting to get laid. But he can change some of his behavior, and he did. That extra hour makes all the difference.

The parallels with 2+2 were not lost on me. Here's this young hothead full of testosterone, pecking as loud as he can, using excellent tree selection, hammering on about his skills and what a good-looking bird he is and how all the other birds suck, and just working his little butt off trying to find a Mrs. Woody who will show him some love and still let him hang with the boys most nights.

He needs a name. Any ideas?

Your epiphany reminds me of a Zen Buddhist story.

Two monks were washing their bowls by a river, when they spotted a scorpion about to drown. Without hesitation, one scooped it up with his hand and laid it on the land, getting stung while doing so. When he resumed washing his bowl, the scorpion fell in again. The same monk again saved the scorpion, and was again stung. The other monk asked in great surprise, “Why continue saving it when its nature is to sting?” The first monk replied, “Because it’s my nature to save.”

The monk should pick up the scorpion in his bowl.

i can't remember the last time i got mad at an animal for doing what i would do if i were in their shoes. i think it's cute if a canadian goose walks in front of my car, [censored] all over the street, and then hisses at me if i get out and try to get him to move because honking just isn't doing the job.

Hitting birds with your bumper at pace generally does the job you [censored] hippie.

P.S I am an animal and my natural urge is to kill animals that annoy me. I hope they too find that cute.

Hi all,

Chad put up the owl Saturday. Big sucker. It looks like it could kill a medium-sized dog.

No pecking yesterday or this morning.

Biologic warfare and vaporization plans have been terminated.

Chad got me a bb gun and 6,000 rounds in case a non-endangered bird should require counselling. It shoots over 600 feet/second. Hoo-ahh.

Matt
