I just put the highest score I can take on the hole using ESC(Equitable Stroke Control). I'm not going to do any better than that anyhow most of the time considering double bogey is ecs for most holes for a 10-12 handicap.

I haven't read this but I chose other because you should drop and add 2 strokes or go back to the tee.

If it's a casual round, you're a complete moron if you do anything except option 2/3.

NEVER walk back if it's a non-tournament round and there's a group waiting on the tee.

It is wrong, but in non-tournament play, my friends and I will typically take a drop without penalty from the spot the ball 'should be'.

Our rational being that if we where on tour, either a spotter or spectator would have located the ball for us prior to us arriving at the site.

If OB and under the same circumstances, we'll treat it as a lateral and drop with a one stroke penalty.

this is exactly what I do, for the same rationale. sometimes you just know that the ball is somewhere around, playable, but you can't find it. if I honestly think it's in the trees or unplayable, I take a penalty. otherwise I drop it where it 'should be' w/o penalty.

I also, I shoot around 100

If I really shanked my shot but still think I could find my ball, I take a drop and a one stroke penalty.

If I just hit it into the rough but near the fairway then I'll take a drop and just pretend it wasy my original ball.

I figure this is a fair compromise for all involved. I am NEVER responsible for slow play.

My complaint with the lost ball is that pros have the entire gallery and rangers helping them spot balls. Also, I never feel it's right to take a full 5 minutes searching for the ball. Also, I'm really bad at finding balls. I don't know why, but I can have trouble spotting it in the fairway.

If I legitimately think I hit the ball so badly that the ball is lost, I drop and add a stroke. If I know for sure that the ball is just in the grass, but hit badly, then I'll just drop with no penalty, assuming that a ranger would have spotted it easily. Whatever.
