Unfortunately, it gets worse.

Much worse.

:/

It's actually sort of amusing in a very sick, twisted way, how many of the regular posters here have gone through "screw poker, I'm quitting forever" phases in the LC threads.

Superstition alert:

Whenever I start a night like this:

2 player $50: 85.71% (6/7) ROI: 63.27% Total profit: $232.50

It's actually really hard to keep going. Because I know it can only go downhill from there, and I'm afraid.

Therefore I am spending lots of time browsing this forum rather than playing at a time where I have at least started out playing well *and* running well. (my all-in EV/chip over 9 all-ins in those games was 72.66%, meaning that I was running sick good against bad opponents, who put their chips in as a 28% underdog on average. AND I won 10% more chips than "my fair share", which probably means I won all but one of them, then one that took me out in the game I lost)

Aren't you supposed to be *more* willing to play when it appears things are going in your favor?

Silly, I know. And sad, as well.

but true, nonetheless.

roi vs variance in heads up sngs.. what correlation does ROI have to how much variance you experience? Say for instance I have a 10% ROI which I do long term in the sng I play most often, and moving up to the next level say I have an 8% ROI. Will my breakevens, and downswings etc be 20% worse, actually I'd almost expect it to increase exponentially the closer you get to 0% ROI

in HUSNG the variance is a direct function of the ROI. As ROI goes up, variance goes down. Look up the binomial random variable distribution.

6 or 7 hands in, he's 3bet me twice, raised every button to 100.

Then this:

Poker Stars, $11 + $0.50 NL Hold'em Tournament, 10/20 Blinds, 2 Players
LeggoPoker Hand History Converter

BB: 1,460
Hero (SB): 1,540

Pre-Flop: (30) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (SB)
<font color="red">Hero raises to 60</font>
BB calls 40

Flop: (120) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)
BB checks
<font color="red">Hero bets 70</font>
<font color="red">BB raises to 180</font>
Hero calls 110

Turn: (480) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] [ K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ] (2 Players)
BB checks
<font color="red">Hero bets 200</font>
BB calls 200

River: (880) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] [ 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ] (2 Players)
BB checks
<font color="red">Hero bets 500</font>
<font color="red">BB raises to 1,020 and is All-In</font>
Hero calls 520

Results: 2,920 Pot
BB showed 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (two pair, Eights and Threes) and WON 2,920 (+1,460 NET)
Hero showed A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (a pair of Aces) and LOST (-1,460 NET)

Given his level of preflop aggression, how do you guys play this? As frustrated as I am by losing the hand this way, I feel like I didn't play this well at all.
