It's not out nor will it be published by 2p2. Haven't gone on the publisher hunt yet.

Have you finished the book already? If so, how long is it?

[15:31] <XXX> Flamez: recently i havent been watching porn
[15:31] <XXX> ive just been thinkign about flopping TPTK
[15:31] <XXX> bc tptk is the nuts and i make tons of money with it

XXX is a 10/20+ player. So I'm not sure how I get your simplification. I'm more than willing to get TPTK into the middle w/ 100 BB stacks.

It's quasi finished. Quasi in the sense it's about 135 pages w/ supplements thrown in, but not complete in the sense I still want and need to add material.

ah in that case PNL1 is the nuts. ;-)

look PNL1 isn't for you guys. sorry but it's for experienced beginners who were ready to get serious. those players play mainly in loose microstakes online games and easy live games.

we intended to split the volumes waayyy past preflop play of hands. well it wouldn't fit. so we split it earlier, skipping the global strategy of planning hands around stealing/playing small pots/playing for commitment and focusing on the most important stuff for those loose easier (and generally capped buyin) games experienced beginners mostly play in. namely, planning around commitment.

PNL2's topics mainly address more advanced games like mid-stakes online games. we're trying to be as explicit as possible and also include a ton of 6-max mid-stakes online examples.

This is the key. There was a lot of talk/hype around this book prior to release, which I think is what feeds the disappointment. Unfortunately, it appears the advanced stuff won't be coming out till the future volumes are released. For players that have read 2+2 for a while and played a lot of hands while thinking about the game, there isn't much groundbreaking stuff here.

But this book doesn't suck. Think about how useful this book is for the weak players that donate a lot of money. I sure hope they don't read it! The idea of "planning your hand," REM, and commitment thresholds will quickly take a donator and make them a much better player, as it helps them clearly see their most costly mistakes. PNL1 is quite good, it's just not that good for a lot of us.

I disliked the book immensely... the whole time reading it I felt like I was reading a book of redundantly complex and not very useful ideas that were thrown together for the sake of writing a book.

Honestly, i think they made up this whole SPR stuff just so it would be new and fresh and not because it is helpful at all.

Thanks for the replies, but I'm curious. You say this book is for the micro games, however in one of Sunny's posts from the original review thread he says (referring to a question of raising AQo OTB):

[ QUOTE ]

Yes, in a lot of online games (particularly the low-stakes ones) with 100bb stacks it's often better to just suck it up with the top-pair hands and deal with the sometimes awkward SPRs for those hands because you are making so much from stealing, playing your position, reading your weak opponents, controlling the pot, making correct range decisions and laydowns, etc.

[/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't this contradict what you're saying (that this book has good advice for mainly micro/SS live games)?

When I said "low stakes", I just meant stakes generally lower than like $10-$20 or $5-$10 or whatever, I wasn't referring to a specific level. There might be a huge difference between how, say, a $1-$2 game and a $.25-$.50 plays. For me there's no point in making generalizations there because game tendencies are so cyclical depending on site, time of day, day of week, lineup, post- or pre-leg, etc. When, for example, a student of mine has a specific question about a hand/line/whatever, I usually just make them be really explicit about explaining opponent types.
