South American Coastline length = 144,500km

So at 30kph, that's about 7 months of continuous, non-stop biking.

There were somebody who biked around for years which managed to bike on average appx. 100 kms/day. Doable, but still sort of impressive, must be some weeks you really don't feel like etc.. With that speed it would take about 4 years. Have a nice trip, OP.

Having spent some time in SA and with a sister and father who also have, I may be able to answer some of your questions.

Depending on your budget, you will definately want to hit up Machu Picchu. Rio is kind of nice, but not all that its cracked up to be. You'll probably want to stay there for a little bit (perhaps catch some soccer games?) but the real cool sites aren't in Brazil, but rather places like Bolivia and Chile. I spent most of my time in Bolivia, so if you plan on going there I could give you some very nice places to stay and detailed information.

I'd stay away from Venezuela given the current situation there.

Most travel in South America is by bus or cab, and you'll probably be staying in a lot of hostels, so get a nice backback and a lock. Most cab drivers will overcharge you, so if they look nice and there are other cabs, politely ask them "Is that really what you charge?" or something of that sort.

In the poorer countrys (the -guys, bolivia, suriname), the top hotels are actually pretty nice and cost only about $50 a night if you want to treat yourself nice once and awhile.

I have absolutely no idea in poker.

What's your proficiency in spanish/portugese?

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
