Could this game possibly even be beatable?
It is a 1-2NL game at a local river boat. The way my friend described it to me is that the house gets a hand dealt to themselves every time and doesnt look at it.
The normal rounds of betting go on and then at the end the house flips over their hand and if they happen to have the best hand, they take the pot. Now this is how my friend described it to me. How in the world can this be beatable? Anyone ever heard anything about this? |

Re: Could this game possibly even be beatable?
That's like the lamest thing I've ever heard...Is this done in lieu of a rake?
Also, does this only happen if the hand goes to showdown? Forcing the players to show their hands after each hand would be a major problem I can't see this game being profitable, even if it's done in lieu of rake |

Re: Could this game possibly even be beatable?
Seems to me that your typical $1/2 NL player is pretty atrocious. Is there any rake above and beyond this? If there isn't, I'll say that the game is beatable. If there is, I'll say that the game is beatable if the other players are bad enough. You might have something more productive that you could do with your time, however.

Re: Could this game possibly even be beatable?
I think you'd have to be out of your mind to play in a game where someone (the house) gets a freeroll on every hand. Every now and then they are going to scoop a huge pot. And how can you bluff with a big bet based on your read of your opponents if you have nothing when you still have to beat the house's cards and you have absolutely no idea what they might be and there is no way to make that hand fold?
I'd guess your friend has it wrong. If he doesn't all of the players in that game need medication. |

OTH, getting to see every winning hand at showdown would allow a good player to achieve a quick and accurate read on everyone else. Naturally, This game would be repel good players and attract clueless gamblers, so I wouldn't dismiss it as unprofitable right away. Meta-game considerations are huge.

Re: Could this game possibly even be beatable?
If the game is that EVERY hand competes with the dealer and goes to showdown then the meta-game implications would be almost meaningless compared with the -EV of competing against the non-stop house-freeroll.
blinds 1/2. you raise to 8 from LP with...whatever. Both blinds fold. Instead of stealing the free $3...you are now running up against the house and have no ability to win any more money. This truly sucks. Not that stealing the blinds is so terrific...but part of your pre-flop advantage to raising DOES come from the folding equity and/or your ability to outplay your opponent post-flop. So much of your folding equity is thrown out the window here it's ridiculous. |

Re: Could this game possibly even be beatable?
So let me get this straight, two players get all-in pre flop with AA and KK the board is 245AK and the dealer flips 63 and they both go broke?!?! Not happening, doesn't exist, I call B.S. and it's not close.
