Pot odds! Get your Pot Odds here!
Live Tournament (60 personx$100):
Hero has not played a hand. Villain is Lag experienced player, but no Phil Ivey. I think this hand is very interesting due to the pot odds involved, and it certainly is not a brag or bad beat post. 10 person full table, only the 3 players listed are involved all else fold preflop. Seat 2: BB (1000 in chips) Seat 4: Hero (1000 in chips) Seat 6: Villian (1000 in chips) SB: posts small blind 10 BB: posts big blind 20 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Hero [Kc Qc] Hero: raises 60 to 80 Villian: calls 80 BB: calls 60 *** FLOP *** [Jd Th Tc] Hero: checks Villian: bets 150 BB: folds Hero: calls 150 *** TURN *** [Jd Th Tc] [4s] Hero: checks Villian: bets 200 Hero calls 200 *** RIVER *** [Jd Th Tc 4s] [Qd] Hero: checks Villian checks *** SHOW DOWN *** Villian: shows [Jh 7s] (a pair of Jacks) Hero: shows [Kc Qc] (a pair of Queens) Hero collected 950 from pot *** SUMMARY *** Total pot 950 I was told by more than one person that Hero "sucked out". I do the math on the pot odds, and I was fairly sure he had Jack crap. J-7 J-8 J-9 was what I had him on due to live conversation during the hand, while understandably A/K/Q-J or any ten is in the realm of possibilty and would remove some of Heros many many outs (14 as the hand stands, +backdoor flush) If you stove the actual hand here, it looks like I might even be ahead at the flop...? I am soliciting feedback on this hand. I guess a lot of people I talk to think I am a total fish, and I am trying to improve my game. I know in hindsight I could have bet the river since villain could be afraid of a ten, but call a small bet, I honestly thought he would fire at it. Comments? |

Re: Pot odds! Get your Pot Odds here!
One of my reasons for posting this is that if you know villians cards Hero has 14outs (A,K,Q,9), but the number of outs will obviously vary on the strength of Villain. Pocket jacks gives hero essentially 0 outs, there are hands like T9 that give hero more just the 4 aces, or the holdings i think most likely (a jack with 6-A) mostly leave a sufficient number to warrant calling down. An over pair is obviously quite bad, and an underpair leaves hero again with like 14 outs.
Without knowing villains exact hand, is the turn call warranted? |

I think your line is fine. Also, since when was hitting one of a million possible outs "sucking out" on someone?

Re: Pot odds! Get your Pot Odds here!
I think the turn call is warranted. He's betting 200 into a pot of 560 or so. With 2.5 to 1 and "as many as 14 outs", you definitely have a call. Sure, you could be drawing dead too, but your read says the guy is LAG, so you can't be overly concerned you're calling off into the nuts.
I think you played this fine. However, I also think if he'd bet the river significantly after that card hit, you'd have had a lot more to consider. --TFGoose |

I'd probably bet/3bet the flop and I value-bet the river. Play on the turn is fine.
