I definitely reached to take Chris Young with my first round pick, I am not sure about the rest...
Note: I am not going to win this year, but I'm hoping to build a contender by 2009.

[/ QUOTE ]

i don't think young is a reach at all, especially if you're playing for 2009. but why give up on 2007 when it looks like you have a solid core of keepers to build on?

A- for the non-keeper portion of the draft. lots of value.

[/ QUOTE ]

The reason I won't win in 2007 is because the top two teams are absolutely gross. This is the fifth season and I've only been here for 2 of the previous 4, so I have no clue how he accumulated that team, but probably through semi-decent drafting and excellent trading.

Team 1's hitters consist of "Mauer, Utley, Reyes, A'Rod, Miggy, Manny, Ortiz, Bay, JSantana, Peavy"
Team 2 has "Pujols, Soriano, Jeter, V'Mart, A. Ramirez, V. Wells, A. Jones, Doc, Carpenter, K'Rod"

In draft #1 of 2 tonight I am in a weird points H2H league. 10 teams w/ the following point values
hitting
r=1
h=1
2b=2
3b=4
hr=5
rbi=2
sb=2
bb=1
k=-1
pitching
ip=1
w=20
l=-5
sv=5
h=-1
er=-1
bb=-1
k=3

any suggestions on a draft strategy to take? Value SP more than usual?

Here is the rumor on the 1st 6 picks
Santana
Pujols
Reyes
Ortiz
Howard/A-Rod
Utley
then me

I'm thinking either Howard or A-Rod whoever doesn't get taken

Thoughts? comments?

thanks,
-ftball

B+. i like that you acquired mostly guys who collect a good number of hits, including a few leadoff men, but you should go even farther out of your way in this setup where hits are basically 40% of the batting poitns. vlad, cabrera, and crawford are all preferable to a-rod here. holliday may be the steal of your draft.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for the grade. So you would recommend trading a-rod? Guy with V-lad has D. Wright. I could try AROD and Wells for Vlad and Wright. Is that good for me? As far as pitching goes should I load up on middle relievers? Not sure what I should be aiming for. Lot's of quality on WR.

ok 2 trade proposals:

1: I trade Greg Maddux ($3) for Akinori Fortsuka ($2). On an island, Maddux is a much better player, however:

- I have a very shaky save situation, with Gagne my only legit closer
- Gagne is injury prone so I have an insurance policy now
- my replacement for Maddux is Gorzelanny, who actually projects roughly the same

2. I trade Frank Thomas ($17) for Mike Cameron ($15). Again, Thomas projects as a better player, but my model says I'll gain standings points b/c I have all kinds of other power in my lineup, but a poor steal situation. in this deal I gain 3 standings point, my opponent gains 2, and I go from 9 back of 1st place to 6 back.

(again, notwithstanding variance)

i'd take soriano, giving you the combo of power and speed that could really make him takeoff. roughly calculating, soriano's numbers last year make him less valuable than howard but more valuable than arod. this year howard might not get enough pitches to make it back to that many hrs, and soriano plays in a smaller park. my 2 cents.

Given point three, I'm not sure why you wouldn't do this, but what format is your league? All my leagues are 5x5 roto, and I'd definitely do this deal in that format.
