myth, GM's just don't ridiculously overpay for the players that had bad "contract years", so it's more of a confirmation bias.

Huh, I seem to remember there being a study by some Sabermetric type people a while back that said that free-agents to be did, in fact, put up better numbers when entering a contract year. My half-assed Google search was fruitless though. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or am I an idiot?

how many 36 year old catchers put up, by far, their best career numbers. posada juiced = highly likely. not much to lose. i dont blame him for doing it.

or

Vernon Wells, turns 29 in a few weeks, for 6 more years at 18M per
