Good to know the West Coast media has picked up the story. Now we need to get the attention of the mainstream media in the East Coast, South and Midwest.

[/ QUOTE ]

My guess is that it was too late for the east coast and websites have not been updated since before the late news, especially in smaller markets. Keep in mind if it is on TV news websites it is possible they will carry it over the air too.

What are people's goals in pursuing this into mainstream media?

My (and I respect that different people will have different views) goals were/are, in no particular order:

a) help restore the money stolen from players
b) have Absolute Poker fix the problem for the future
c) have other sites improve their security to avoid similar impacts

I feel that (a) and (b) are moving forward with the current levels of attention, and that (c) has already happened (I know for a fact that other operators are keeping an eye on this).

What do people think will be achieved by wider coverage?

am i the only one who thinks this is doomsday for online poker?

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think it's Doomsday, but you can bet that the Bill Frists of the world are going to enjoy a big round of "I told you so's." I'm also concerned by the fact that the federal regs implementing the UIGEA have yet to be released. Assuming there was some debate in DC about how stringent the regs should be, this certainly won't help our cause any.

Onto a few other matters. I'll cover the minor ones first.

First off, you guys are likely wasting your time looking for Scott Tom's "brother", Phil Tom.

I have been given information from a fairly reliable source (though not verified it myself) that Phil Tom is Scott Tom's FATHER, not his brother. Furthermore, supposedly there is no Phil Tom, Jr., meaning that Scott does not have a brother named Phil.

From what I have been told, AP was started by Scott Tom and a few Ivy league friends back in 2003. Phil Tom and the other fathers of these kids bankrolled the venture, and Absolute Poker was born.

Now, regarding UGAISTHETEAM, some of you are completely barking up the wrong tree. I have known the guy personally for a few years now. I can absolutely guarantee you that he had nothing to do with this scandal, nor did he cheat in past tournaments. He won 3 in a row back in 2004? Great. These sort of things can happen. I finished 3rd and 1st in my first two WSOP events ever, and I had never played a tournament before in my life. Was I wearing superuser sunglasses?

It's not my place to reveal too much about UGA's bankroll, but suffice to say that the guy has never gotten rich off of poker. He's been able to pay the bills with it for the last few years, and he is overall a winning player. However, he's basically the definition of a mid-limit online grinder, and is basically the last guy you could ever accuse of having access to hole cards. Get him off of your radar screen, because you're wasting your time.

2nd phone call report to follow...

Wider coverage may mean that people who play at AP who may not be aware of what has happened become informed. Then they can make a decision if they want to continue playing there under the circumstances.

If they punish the cheaters, refund the money and make some changes to their security measures, it could help online poker imo.
