Damn, all this time I thought the HP were good... but if that's Stephen King's view... I don't know, maybe I was wrong.

I believe DD's theory was that if Voldemort killed Harry, he would just kill his part of the soul, and the Blood that they shared would protect (resurrect?) Harry, like it did in the forest. If someone else killed him, I don't think that he'd come back.

I don't believe this is it. DD was surprised when Harry survived. And when he's telling Snape the entire plan, he certainly doesn't suggest that Harry will survive.

Anyway, aside from the obvious dramatic problems of having a "good guy" like DD kill Harry, you can rationalize it away on the idea that DD would have put off having Harry die as long as possible, just in case he figured out some alternative or simply to grant Harry as long a life as he could have. Or maybe DD thought Harry was a necessary tool for resisting Vold and getting the other horcruxes.

In the King's cross chapter, they're talking about how Voldy's blood is in him, so Lily's sacrifice lives on. And Harry says "And you knew this? You knew this all along?" and DD responds, "I guessed. But my guesses are usually good."

I think it's just that Harry couldn't know that he was going to live, because he had to sacrifice himself, but DD had a pretty good idea he wasn't sending Harry to his (permanent?) death.

Since the HP discussion here is dying I joined another board to talk about the books, movies, etc.

One of my intial posts was an argument with someone complaining about inaccuracies in the book and I was kind of harsh. I thought the HP fans here might get a kick out of it.

bumpity bump...

just finished the whole series this past week...

+ loved the Snape/penseive scenes.

+ loved the final duel between harry and voldy

+ loved the epilogue when harry reveals he named a son "albus severus". thought it was very touching.

- the middle dragged as usual. at least no more Quidditch...

- overall, never liked it when harry started screaming at people. sure he loved his parents, but somehow, he fails to demonstrate it towards his friends in times of pressure? JKR needs to learn a little more about love... ( smashing dumbledore's office, yelling at ron, etc... )

- did anyone notice that the best spell ever cast in the whole
series was done by Goyle ( or Crabbe, forget who... ) in the
"Room of Requirement" when he started that "Dragon / Serpent Fire
Storm" curse? Why didn't one of the other wizards do that thing???

-- a retro complaint -- during the Goblet book, during
the dragon challenge, why didn't harry simply say "Accio EGG"
rather than "Accio Broom" ?!?!?!?

In situations like this, you assume something simple. The organizers of the Tournament bewitched the eggs so that they couldn't simply be summoned. Otherwise, the goal of capturing the egg would be too easy.

Hermoine explained in the book that it is a very unpredictable, unstabble, and dangerous spell to perform.
