Default Brag: I saved a kids life one time-sort of

This happened back in the summer of 04' but since I have just recently found this forum, the story has not been told.

It was mid-July and it was nearing all-time record temps for the Pacific NW ([censored] you global warming). Well here in Portland one way to escape the heat is to head to the coast, so that is what the wife and I decided to do. On our way down the I-5 a very bad accident happened in front of us.

A little pickup got involved with a red suburban in a road rage incident. The were cutting each other off and yelling and the whole bit. The red suburban went to cut off the little truck one more time, clipped it, and sent the thing veering off the road. It ended up going end over end and ejecting one passenger.

By the time I pulled over and got to the truck the driver managed to get out of the truck pretty much unscathed. The suburban did the responsible thing and also pulled over. There was still another passenger in the little truck who was hurt pretty badly. His window had been down (heat) and his head literally scraped on the pavement and ripped the skin off to the skull.

Fuel was leaking everywhere and we (bystanders) were afraid of it sparking and catching fire and burning the poor kid to death (He was 20ish). So another guy and I managed to get him out through the windshield (the truck was laying on its side) and luckily it did not catch fire.

The saddest part about this situation is that passenger I mentioned earlier who was ejected. See the truck, when it landed, did so on him and he did not die instantly. He suffered there for what seemed like an eternity. We tried to lift the truck off of him but could not. He ended up dieing there that day.

Here is the kicker: The kid who died under the truck was an inbound freshman football player to Oregon State University. The driver was his uncle who was taking this kid, and his brother who I pulled out of the car, along with his belongings down so he could move and attend school/summer practice for football.

Beat: I saw a kid die and could do nothing about it
Brag: I sort of rescued his brother from the same vehicle.
Variance: His life had they never gotten into the altercation with that other driver.

No they did not. I actually did not see the suburban clip the truck (view blocked by other cars) but it was quite obvious it happened. The problem was it had to have been bumper to bumper or something because there was no visible paint sharing. The last I heard, until the news stopped updating (yesterdays news is outdated I guess) was that the cops were thinking of trying both drivers for criminal negligent homicide or manslaughter. See I left out of the OP that these two cars were throwing things at each other during the altercation so both really played a role in the incident. No one else who stopped would say they acually saw the suburban hit the truck so either everyone who actually saw the contact did not stop or they were too scared to say anything.

Now this is the story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And Id like to take a minute just sit right there
Ill tell you how I became the prince of a town called bel-air

In west philadelfia born and raised
On the playground where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys said were up in no good
Started making trouble in my neighbourhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
And said youre moving with your aunte and uncle in bel-air

(only the first three episodes of season one)

I begged and pleaded with her the other day
But she packed my suitcase and sent me on my way
She gave me a kissin and she gave me my ticket
I put my walkman on and said I might aswell kick it

First class, yo this is bad,
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass
Is this what the people of bel-air livin like,
Hmm this might be alright!

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the
Licensplate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought now forget it, yo home to bel-air

I pulled up to a house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabby yo, home smell you later
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To settle my throne as the prince of bel-air
