Carlo,

If any 'alternative' therapies worked, the Asian countries wouldn't be crying out for Western medicine.

[/ QUOTE ]

If western medicine "worked", we wouldn't have 'alternative' therapies.

Not true, thats like assuming once we have science noone would be religious or superstitious.

The East wants our medicine because they recognise it works and theirs doesnt, because ours has measurable effects which would benefit them directly. The same is not even remotely true in reverse.

Or course when there are gaps in Western medicine people try "anything", it doesn't mean "anything" is effective.

Intead of using the word "worked", I should have used the phrase "had all the answers".

If patients are 100% satified with western medicine, why are they flocking to alternative care?

Hmm, I'm not sure westerners are 'flocking' towards alternative therapy.

If they are, do we agree that, whatever the reason, its NOT because of evidence of its extensive measurable successes

The 'flockers' make up about half the US population.

BTW, the more educated the 'flocker' the more likely they are to use alternative therapies.

So if we poll Ph'D's and truckers we'll have a higher percentage of flockers in the Ph'D's?

My guess would be that if this is true, then it is due to financial issues.

No. If you practice acupuncture, your PhD (educated) patients are going to far outnumber your 'trucker' (assumed uneducated?) patients.

ah, ok, it's a money issue.
I was wondering because my neighbor runs a trucking company and I know a lot of the guys. I can't think of one that doesn't exhibit some aspect of superstition, such as wearing copper bracelets for their arthritis or taking some powder from the local 'healthfood' store, etc. Similar with the construction tradesmen I know.
It seems to lessen as the education level goes up, but it's only my own experience so do you have a study. It seems strange that religion goes down with education and intelligence and happy juice use goes up.
