Default Best Backgammon Book

Now that Party offers real money backgammon I would like to refresh my game.

I am a strong intermediate player and would appreciate any book recommendations.

The last book I read was "Backgammon" by Paul Magril

thanks

cheers

magril's is still a good book. try "advanced backgammon" and "501 essential backgammon problems" both by bill robertie (2 time world champion). you could also buy snowie it is a great computer program to learn to become an expert player.

a terrific place to buy most backgammon books and software is http://thegammonpress.com

There are some mistakes in Advanced Backgammon, as it is from the pre neural net era. They are corrected in Jeremy Bagai´s "Classic Backgammon revisited".

Backgammon Boot Camp by Walter Trice and Modern Backgammon by Bill Robertie are the best IMO. Kit Woolseys books are also very good.

I got "backgammon for winners" and "backgammon for serious players" by Robertie (+501 essential) and they are all great (for me, being a pokerplayer but interested in the logic behind good backgammonmoves... playing good backgammon seems to be more about being looseaggressive then tightaggressive, but maybe its just me not being able to estimate when to attack, maybe I play to reckless). Is "modern backgammon" very different?

computers have changed the game, and the correct plays are somwhat different now. top players have improved due to learning from computer programs. the other books are mostly correct, but modern backgammon takes the game to a level that had not previously been understood. therefore, i think you should add it to your backgammon list.

Friend, you are mistaken. The dictum is that if you are winning handsomely you play cautiously, if losing badly you play very aggressively and if there is not much in it then you play a considered game. Poker allows a number of styles depending upon how a game is playing. However, backgammon has one style that varies depending upon the game situation.
