players are so bad at wsop
old dude who i cant figure out is in sb. he seems to make small raises and reraises preflop with weak hands and strong hands. seems very passive. made one big bet and it was a bluff, his value bets seem smallish.
25-50 blinds I cover him. He has like 4.5k. I open with K9o on button to 150, he makes it 250. I flip in black chip, ready to never see it again. flop comes T85, he checks. Im lost, so I check, not wanting to lose more black chips because they are so pretty. turn 4. He checks. Im also lost so I check as well, because black chips look so nice next to pink chips. river K, he checks. I bet 350 he instacalls AK. so where did I go wrong, seems like I got PWNED |

Re: players are so bad at wsop
You did nothing wrong. He plays so passive that he wouldn't even value bet the river. You were right to value bet on the end.

Re: players are so bad at wsop
I think after two checks I'd take a stab. 300 sounds right.
The river bet seems fine since he probably bets the river if he just hit a K (wtf?), and we probably get a call from a few PPs or maybe even AQ after 3 checks. |

Well betgo, let's just say I definitely thought of you when the guy limp-reraised twice in a row. If I hadn't already seen your picture, I would have asked him if it was you.

No one has shown strength postflop so far. Criticizing the river bet seems results oriented. |

This is when you 'right click' his face with your fist and take a note on his ass.
Other than that, standard? |

What kind of range do you put him on PF after that minreraise? And what in that range is calling a river bet after not betting anywhere along the way that loses to a K? On a T854 board I'm thinking JJ-QQ (occasionally 99, but if this guy is passive perhaps not) bet somewhere along the way. At least the turn after the flop gets checked behind. I don't think AJ or AQ is calling a river bet. Almost any K in his PF range is likely to be better. Since all of that stuff seems unlikely, for him to have worse hands that will call here means he needs a very broad PF minreraising range. |

I think you get called by 9T-QT here as well...

Re: players are so bad at wsop
Villain's play was not all that terrible, except for minireraise that had the effect of scaring and confusing OP.
Not cbetting that flop with AK was not bad. Most people would bet TPTK on the river. He does have a medium strength hand, and OP might bluff if he hadn't also connected. Some people would checkraise the river, but he does not have one pair, and would hate to be 3-bet. I don't think OP got pwned here. Villain had the better hand. The fact that he did not play it in the standard way most of us would play it did not prevent him from winning the pot. Villain's style seems similar to some of the old guys I play in limit stud. He plays a cautious tight game. That doesn't mean he is a terrible player. |
