But guess what, in reality way more than 60% of all poker players are losers. way less than 20% (random guess) can be called "winning players". Out of these maybe 1% (read that somewhere) actually make a living.

Becoming, or being a winning player is hard work and by no means "standard". Having a 2p2 account doesnt make you a winning player and A LOT of people around here (and everywhere else) THINK they are winning players.

dave,

if you're bored playing poker, try a new game. play what's fun, or don't play at all. i can kinda see grinding MSNL or something if it makes you $300/hr, but if you're playing $22s and are bored, why bother? if you're bored, you're not going to put your full attention into playing, you're not going to get better, and you're not going to get the most enjoyment/money/whatever out of the game. doesn't seem worth it to me.

I don't have AIM, but I think I will try it.

95% of all players are losing. I know this sound wrong, and that this theory states that there can only be one winner at a table. This is wrong as well, because most players cannot beat the rake either.

I started playing poker about 2 1/2 years ago. I got a job playing as a prop four months later. I would be lying to you if I told you I was ready at the time. I was fortunate though that I only had one HUGE leak that was easily fixed. I was playing at 3/6 stakes. Two months later, I was sitting at 9/18 at Commerce, I skipped over all the other levels. I know you would think I wasn't ready, but if you ever sat a table with 6 props, you are ready, believe me.

I go robusto, to busto to robusto to busto, etc. and that is what brought me to HUSNG: Minimum investment for maximum gains. I have played (and beat) as high as 20/40 Limit and $500 NL. I don't feel sorry for myself or anything. I know of a few players who were playing at 300/600 successfully, only to bust and now grinds 3/6. I do envy those that never had to constantly move up and down. As a yard stick, I only have to look back at when I first started posting here. At first, I was fooled by all of the posters. I thought that they were all winning players. My eyes opened to this soon. I see where some of the posters are that I started out with back in the SSL days. Some play MSL, NL, or switched to other games completely. What is encouraging to me is to see how few of those posters are left. In fact, I think that there are only about 10 of us at most.

The boredom isn't from the game, really. I find it unnatural to stare at a computer screen all day. After two years of spending time in a B&M, with distractions, things to do, etc, sitting alone is discomforting. I always thought of poker as a social game.

I find it fascinating at the 20 level. If I win like I think I should today, I am moving up. I think it is odd that the players seem better than the 10s, but still not that good. I wonder how many players I am playing that moved up from the 10s to the 20s, yet have large leaks in their games. That these leaks were okay in the smaller games because the players were not knowledgeable enough to see them, and how high does one have to play before these holes are no longer excusable. I really do appreciate this form of poker. I feel like I am getting better every day. HU is an odd animal for sure, but I think once I enter FR again, I'll enjoy the party so much more.

Yes, a break is a good thing. To be honest, life doesn't bother me when I am actually playing, the anxiety of life goes away once I am staring at green felt. Boredom, yes, anxiety, no. But with that said, I played all of 10 hours last month, due to too much stuff going on, and playing poker was not very appealing to me.

I usually have a policy for socializing with 2+2ers: I don't. I have played against several posters at the casino without introducing myself. I was even called an idiot by a few of them. Maybe its time to change my paradigm here. I will go to AIM and try not to create a tilt-name like I did for Stars that I regret having, because I tried 100 sn's before exasperatingly typing in.... OH S###!

So, I am going to go to AIM right now, download it while I go eat, and post it.

ciao!

fwiw, i think the number of winnings players is probably 5-10% of the population. sharkscope did a study and found out that ~5% of players made a profit.

Sharkscope has this in their FAQ so I'm curious as to where the other number is from:

What proportion of online poker players make money from Sit N' Go tournaments?
1/3rd of the usernames are profitable. 2/3rds lose money.

I don't really agree with the one above because I'm pretty sure it includes guys who played like 1 tournament and won then stuck with cash.
