That Sinking Feeling in the Pit of Your Stomach

The question for this hand is when do you smell a rat and begin to throttle back after flopping a monster.

3/6 Holdem.

I just sat down at the table a few minutes ago, so no real read of any player.

Hero is dealt T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and is the big blind.

UTG calls, as do two other callers, SB completes, BB (hero)checks.

Flop is 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img],7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img],T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Hero (BB) bets. UTG raises, all fold to BB, who reraises, UTG calls.

Turn is 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Hero bets, UTG raises, Hero 3 bets, UTG 4 bets, Hero 5 bets, UTG 6 bets, Hero calls.

River is Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Hero checks, UTG Bets, Hero calls.

My question comes down what to do on the turn. I think my initial bet and re-raise are correct. When UTG makes the 4th bet, my 'spider sense' is starting to tingle. After UTG makes the sixth bet, I'm very worried, so decide to just call it down at that point.

So, what is the right play here.

1. Throttle back when UTG raises.
2. Throttle back after UTG 4 Bets?
3. Do exactly what I did.
4. Keep raising -- you got a monster there, people at 3/6 reraise with garbage, and if you're beat, so be it.

I don't see folding on the turn or the river as even being worth considering.

c/r turn - and then JAM to the max...

This looks like the right amount of action to me against an aggressive player. Because this is 3/6 live and the players tend to be passive, I might just call the 4th bet and c/c the river. Don't post results.

Without any reads I would of called his 4 bet on the turn and c/c the river. I guess you should pay attention to your "spider sense".

Live 3/6 Players 4 bet the turn in this spot with pocket Tens (or pocket 7's, but that's not an option in this hand) about 99% of the time. You pretty much have to call his 4 bet and c/c the river, but know that you're beat. Live 3/6 players almost never 4 bet the turn without the nuts.

It's opponent dependent just how far I'd go, but I think on average I'd probably pull back close to where you did.
First raise could be Tx, Overpair, 7x, or a total bluff.
Second raise I start to thinking he has 7x.
Third raise I think he might have A7, 74.
Fourth raise I start thinking maybe he actually has Tens in the hole and it's time to slow down against an unknown opponent.
Obviously, it's not that defined every bet but narrowing down what hands he's continuing with is something you should be doing unless we know he's playing irrationally. Though we have no reads, I would assume he's rational enough to not keep dumping money unless he has something. After he keeps jamming, we have to consdier that his something may in fact beat our hand.

He was sort of deceptive by calling your 3 bet looking weaker and then going nuts on the turn. That is something which perhaps should turn on some alarms and make us slow down sooner than we did. I think you played it alright. I might've lost more or less bets depending on different things. Tough break.
