he bets, I call planning to raise turn

When people talk during a hand they usually have the nuts.

That said I don't play in Cali games but from what I understand anytime someone puts in >0 bets they're usually drawing to <2 outs.

given his description, one thing is 100% certain, and that is that i am showing this thing down. i'd raise the flop and call down if he 3bet. taking your line gets you into the exact spot you are in now. bleh.

I wouldnt take this line unless you feel good about calling down a turn 3 bet. I think this is fine btw. Now call down.

If he's mindlessly laggy, then this is fine and I'd just call down the 3-bet. If he's the thinking lag type that can actually fold and hand-read, then I'd rather wait until the river to raise or just raise the flop. As played, I might actually fold the turn against a thinking lag.

If 4-betting is correct here, then OP wouldn't even have to ask.
