Call, unless there was a $10 bet in front.

Depends on local rules.

I think at the Trop, putting out an amount that is greater than the original bet by more than half the original bet counts as a min raise, though I've seen rulings go different ways.

$60 to call + $40 more = raise.

The exception would be if this was a single oversized chip (in which case it would be a call unless "raise" was clearly announced). But since we're talking red chips here, the single-chip rule apply.

This is a raise. A single large denomination chip without verbalization would be a call in most rooms but more than half a bet with multiple chips is a raise where I play. YMMV

There are a lot of places this is not a raise because half a bet has no meaning in NL, however, absent a rule to the contrary I would rule this a raise as the player made it clear he wanted to put more money in the pot.

I mostly play limit and often forget there are differences in the rules due to the differences in the games. I have a tendancy to answer from a limit prerspective.

I hate to see it, but the NL rules are moving in the direction of limit just becaue there are so many poker rooms that are unfamiliar with NL rooms that they play everything by limit rules. From time to time this leads to really bad situations because NL rules exist for a reason.

results:

floor made a good ruling, and let the guy who half raised clarify his action because nobody had acted. guy puts out $20 more. old nit and his donktastic tag friend who thinks he is world-class because he is sitting behind 300bb argue the decision for the next hour.
