Default Rakim

I have heard several people mention Rakim being the best rapper of all time. I have the CD "The Master". What else do you guys suggest? I can see how someone can say Biggie is the best, I can see how someone can say Pac is the best, I can see how someone can say Big L is the best, Even Nas. But to say Rakim is the best, I want to hear song reccomendations that back this up from Rakim fans. I find it very hard to believe a rapper could be better lyrically then Big L, but then again Big L is greatly influenced from Big Daddy Kane and Rakim. Let me know.

from Eric B & Rakim--Paid in Full: "Eric B is President," "I Ain't No Joke," just about every song on that album is worth listening to.

Thanks DonkPuncher, I will be getting these, but by album do you mean the Paid In full movie soundtrack or is paid in full the name of the album?

I also find it interesting how whenever a "Greatest rapper" thread is put up when 2Pac wins it, if Rakim is not mentioned, a bunch of people flip out, but then when I post asking for someone to give me song examples only one person comes up with a response with over 90 people reading it...

He destroys The Watcher Pt. 2, so download that to realize that he's still amazing. Check out "It's Been A Long Time" from The 18th Letter.

There was a longish thread about him a year ago. He has a lot of fans on OOT.

Lyrics of Fury?

You have to realize having started with later emcees it may not be as impressive because emcees have adopted many things he introduced or improved upon.

I love "when i be on the mic", but what makes him legendary was his early stuff with Eric B, where he innovated what is the modern "flow" in hip hop.
