Another year-end reflection post
Brag: 2006 has been a very good year for me, the year in which I feel I finally moved my game forward a few notches. I’ll spare you the exclamation points, but I’m very, very happy about this.
Beat: This is another boring brag post, and you won't be getting the next three minutes of your life back. Sorry. Variance: This post could have been longer and even more boring, I suppose, but I've tried to edit it down to the salient points. Briefly, I have a wife/kids/job/life outside of poker, so I’m not playing full-time. Instead, I play several hours a night, approximately 5 nights/week, almost exclusively mid-limit HE. Other than a few field trips for live play, I play exclusively on a non-PT site, so my graph is out of Excel. I am a database developer irl, so I do keep accurate records, fwiw. In 2006, I played a cumulative 1241 hours of poker, and won $128,118, which breaks down as $99k from 30/60 full ring, and $31.5k from 20/40 6Max. I also had some small losses in NL cash games, and some small wins at 8/16, which is why the big totals don’t quite square up. As you can see from the graph, I had a strong start (a continuation from Nov/Dec 2005, which were red-hot for me), but then languished in a 3 month break-even stretch that had me questioning what I was doing. Eventually, I realized my more obvious mistakes, made some changes to my approach to the game, and began to see the steady results reflected in the graph; my results from June to date have been both strong and consistent. Despite my success this year, I am aware that several areas of my game could be stronger. And my NL cash game sucks, so I know what I’ll be working on in 2007 Anyway, 2006 has been a great year for me. I benefited a lot from the advice on the 2p2 strategy forums. I don't know if 2007 will be as successful, but I have hopes... Thanks for reading. |
