Default Gold Rush Were-Fox: game thread

Our cast of characters:

THE MAN WHO HAS NO NAME, who unleashes the forces of evil on the world, and serves as the night zero redshirt;

Our villains:

PIOUS PETE. Evil seer. Each night chooses one person to peek, and will be told villager, angel, or seer (but not which villager, which angel, or which seer) at daybreak.

DANGEROUS DAN McGREW. Dangerous wolf. Goes down fighting, and will take one of the villagers who voted for him with him when he goes. (Randomly selected, not a targeted kill.)

WINDY IKE. A wolf who will turn one of the villagers who voted for him into a wolf when he dies. (Randomly selected. Yes, I will immediately introduce the new wolf to his teammates as night falls.)

CLAW-FINGERED KITTY. A vanilla wolf.

PHILO. A vanilla wolf who is having an affair with TELLUS's wife. They aren't classical star-crossed lovers, but Philo's identity will be exposed to the villagers when Tellus is killed.

Our heroes:

THE DAGO KID. Seer. Each night chooses one person to peek, and will be told wolf or non-wolf.

OLE OLSON, THE SAILOR SWEDE. Seer. If he is lynched, a random vanillager will acquire seer powers in his place. If he is nightkilled, no apprentice. (This is a shameless experiment to encourage people to consider whethter it is right for a seer to quietly go to his death rather than frantically roleclaiming. I don't expect it to have much actual impact on the game.)

CLANCY OF THE MOUNTED POLICE. Angel, with the restriction that he may protect each player only once, and he must protect someone each night. The first time he is lynched or nightkilled, he loses his powers, but survives as a confirmed vanillager. The second time, he dies.

THE ANGEL. Another angel, with the same restriction on his powers. In addition, he has an anonymous star-crossed lover, THE WOMAN. When either of these two dies, the other also dies.

Rabble with assorted significance:

ONE-EYED-MIKE begins the game as a neutral. He peeks to the good seers as a wolf, and to the evil seer as a villager. If he is nightkilled, he dies (and wins). If lynched, survives the attack to become a real vanillager (and wins if the village wins). He will be told his identify, but is forbidden to claim any role except vanillager, or he is mod-killed (and loses).

SAM McGEE is told he is a vanillager, and peeks to all as a vanillager, but wins the game by dying, regardless who kills him.

THE WOMAN and TELLUS THE SMITH have the effects on THE ANGEL and PHILO described above, but are otherwise vanillagers. BLASPHEMOUS BILL, SAM NOOT, THE MAN FROM ELDORADO, and THE PARSON'S SON are 100% vanillagers.

My fingers are crossed I've gotten the balance more or less right. In the event of a hideously gamebreaking emergency, there are a couple of tricks I intended to use not included above that might come out but I really don't like funny business in werewolf games.

Game rules and bookkeeping matters:

My time zone is one time zone west of the US west coast. I will be available via PM from more or less 10am to midnight my time, which is 2pm-4am East Coast USA time. Nightfall will be at 9pm Eastern (6pm west coast, 5pm my time) unless we have a majority lock and request an early night. 00 is good, 01 is bad.

If the night people do their thing promptly, I plan to reopen the thread for the next day before I go to sleep - so days will begin somewhere around 4 or 5 Eastern instead of the standard 8. If the night people don't do their thing promptly, they risk delaying the start of the next day until 2pm eastern which won't make anyone happy.

This means, of course, that official vote tallies will only be happening after 2pm each day (and how many of those you get depends how busy I am at work, but I will keep up as best I can.)

Roles are going out now. IT IS STILL NIGHT, but it will be day once I finish PMing and post the first poem fragment and kill the redshirt.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN:
How were-foxes came to walk among honest prospectors and thieves, on a cold winter night many years ago

from The Ballad of the Black Fox Skin:

There was Claw-fingered Kitty and Windy Ike living the life of shame,
When unto them in the Long, Long Night came the man-who-had-no-name;
Bearing his prize of a black fox pelt, out of the Wild he came.

His cheeks were blanched as the flume-head foam
when the brown spring freshets flow;
Deep in their dark, sin-calcined pits were his sombre eyes aglow;
They knew him far for the fitful man who spat forth blood on the snow.

"Did ever you see such a skin?" quoth he;
"there's nought in the world so fine--
Such fullness of fur as black as the night,
such lustre, such size, such shine;
It's life to a one-lunged man like me; it's London, it's women, it's wine.

"The Moose-hides called it the devil-fox, and swore that no man could kill;
That he who hunted it, soon or late, must surely suffer some ill;
But I laughed at them and their old squaw-tales.
Ha! Ha! I'm laughing still.

"For look ye, the skin--it's as smooth as sin,
and black as the core of the Pit.
By gun or by trap, whatever the hap, I swore I would capture it;
By star and by star afield and afar, I hunted and would not quit.

"For the devil-fox, it was swift and sly, and it seemed to fleer at me;
I would wake in fright by the camp-fire light, hearing its evil glee;
Into my dream its eyes would gleam, and its shadow would I see.

"It sniffed and ran from the ptarmigan I had poisoned to excess;
Unharmed it sped from my wrathful lead ('twas as if I shot by guess);
Yet it came by night in the stark moonlight to mock at my weariness.

"I tracked it up where the mountains hunch like the vertebrae of the world;
I tracked it down to the death-still pits where the avalanche is hurled;
From the glooms to the sacerdotal snows,
where the carded clouds are curled.

"From the vastitudes where the world protrudes
through clouds like seas up-shoaled,
I held its track till it led me back to the land I had left of old--
The land I had looted many moons. I was weary and sick and cold.

"I was sick, soul-sick, of the futile chase, and there and then I swore
The foul fiend fox might scathless go, for I would hunt no more;
Then I rubbed mine eyes in a vast surprise--it stood by my cabin door.

"A rifle raised in the wraith-like gloom, and a vengeful shot that sped;
A howl that would thrill a cream-faced corpse--
and the demon fox lay dead. . . .
Yet there was never a sign of wound, and never a drop he bled.

"So that was the end of the great black fox,
and here is the prize I've won;
And now for a drink to cheer me up--I've mushed since the early sun;
We'll drink a toast to the sorry ghost of the fox whose race is run."

NIGHT ZERO:

THE MAN WHO HAS NO NAME meets his untimely end, thusly:

Put not your trust in a poke of dust would ye sleep the sleep of sin;
For there be those who would rob your clothes ere yet the dawn comes in;
And a prize likewise in a woman's eyes is a peerless black fox skin.

Put your faith in the mountain cat if you lie within his lair;
Trust the fangs of the mother-wolf, and the claws of the lead-ripped bear;
But oh, of the wiles and the gold-tooth smiles
of a dance-hall wench beware!

Wherefore it was beyond all laws that lusts of man restrain,
A man drank deep and sank to sleep never to wake again;
And the Yukon swallowed through a hole the cold corpse of the slain.

ok, I just realized that bill, noot, eldorado, and parson's son probably were not told that they were just vanillagers, lol

Revised:

Evil Seer (pete): 6
Brutal Wolf (dangerous mcgrew): 6
windy ike (wolf / +1 wolf to the team when lynched): 8
Vanilla Wolf: 4
Wolf who gets revealed if Tellus dies: 3

Wolf team: 27 pts

VILLAGERS

Seer x2: 12 pts
Angel #1 +tough (Clancy): 6 pts
Angel in Love: 3 pts

CONFIRMED VILLAGERS:
The Woman (lover): 1.5 pts
Tellus The Smith: 2 pts
6 villagers: 6 pts (includes one-eyed mike and the villager who wins by getting nightkilled)

Village: 30.5 pts

anyways, this was mostly for my benefit to make sure I read the rules and to get a gauge on how much leeway we get in terms of role-revealing and how many mislynches we get and whatever

basically, there's not much to say here, it's a balanced game, let's get to lynching people

** THE FOLLOWING IS A VERY BAD PLAN, I'M SAYING IT NOW BECAUSE I THINK SOMEONE WILL PROPOSE IT **

Tellus The Smith should out himself and be lynched today. Then, we will lynch the outed wolf tomorrow.

** THIS IS A TERRIBLE PLAN. DO NOT DO IT. **
