Default Hi

All

just a heads up I've been added as politics mod and have selected RR and Jman to give me a hand along with Iron who will be staying on as well.

I won't be doing anything drastic to start but will be with the other mods and input from you be looking to make this forum better place for political discussion.

one thing to to start. Id like to put an immediate stop to all posts calling someone a troll, requesting their ban or other mod action (locking deleting, flogging) if you believe a post should be looked at please use the notify mod option located beneath the text of the post. if you have problem with a poster or believe he/she should be banned please send me a PM explaining what's going on.

thanks

also all,

I believe its only fair that because any rules we come up will be new that all posters be given a clean slate so to speak. this doesnt mean that i wont be my normal harsh self but Ive decided against coming in with sort of hit list and will be giving everyone an opportunity to show that they are willing to help me and the mods with providing a good forum.

As a non-anarchist, I look forward to the improvement additional moderation in pursuit of the quality of the forum will bring. Good luck to the new editor in helping make the exchanges here a more content-rich experience.

I wanted to add to this. Vigorous debate is a part of politics, but everyone must remember that you aren't going to convince that many people. Many people are certain enough that their position is the correct one that they believe anyone that disagrees with them must be stupid. I can assure you this isn't the case; there are many smart people that disagree with other smart people. After you state your case there is no reason to repeat the same thing over and over in one thread, so please don't do it.

What if it's clear that the person you're talking to doesn't understand what you're trying to tell them so you try finding different ways to say it?

I don't see a problem with this if there is genuine interest on both sides. What you have to remember about politics is that people believe strongly enough in their positions that they think anyone that disagrees with them is either stupid or trolling. There are times when you have to realize people will just disagree and saying things the most times or the loudest will not change that.

Well, it appears the new regime's goal of squelching the postings by the only group to demonstrably, repeatedly convince many other people is well under way.

In my professional capacity as a teacher, I can assure you, repetition works. Especially is you keep saying the same things in different ways.

No, I do not believe that is their intention. The shinning new regime can delete my next five posts if they disagree.

What they are after is a consumer-friendly experience of this forum, like your favorite breakfast cereal. They seek the clean, and I approve of their efforts.
