Default High Stakes ESPN Golf Match

$9million golf match between some of poker's superstars and Vince Van Patten. Each golfer is putting up a mill, with some interesting twists in the formats.

From DN's blog (ignore the dog/period stuff at the end)
http://fullcontactpoker.com/poker-journa...&ucat=&

I think it's also in Hellmuth's blog.

Saw this today, and the teams look pretty intriguing.

From DN's blog:

[ QUOTE ]
3 man scramble:
Daniel Negreanu, Josh Arieh, Erick Lindgren
Dewey Tomko, Doyle Brunson, ?
Phil Hellmuth, Russ Hamilton, Billy Walters

2 man best ball:
Daniel Negreanu, Erick Lindgren
Doyle Brunson, Dewy Tomko
Phil Hellmuth, Russ Hamilton
Vince Van Patten, Janet Jones
Phil Ivey, David Oppenhiem
David Grey, Huck Seed
John Hanson, Mickey Appleman
(I forget the last two pairings)

[/ QUOTE ]

The upfront money is $1M each for the scramble, and $100k each for the best ball. Given that and the players involved, the side action should be monumentally degenerate. GOGOGO!

The first (and only) time I saw Appleman on TV, I seriously thought he was a she-male.

Is he any good at Poker?

Mickey Appleman was interviewed/profiled in Al Alvarez's masterpiece about the 1981 WSOP, "The Biggest Game in Town". He has four bracelets (first in 1980, most recent in 2003) and according to his Wikipedia page has won over $1.5M in tournament play alone.

Mickey Appleman's Wikipedia entry.

Mickey Appleman's Hendon Mob profile

So yeah, he's OK.
