Re: nyc home games
[ QUOTE ]
Please do. I'm thinking about going if there's still room tomorrow (when I'll know for sure if I can go). Is this a rake free game? I'm a little paranoid, and only want to play in legal games. [/ QUOTE ] Like I said - I haven't played in it yet, but I spoke to the host and it seems totally legit to me. Its at a bar, not some seedy place. I think there is a $25 fee to play, which goes to paying the bar to rent the room, and you get two drink tickets. Not a raked game. My movers are now showing up Thursday (was supposed to be Monday - clowns) so I may not actually make this one. In any event, I wouldn't be too paranoid about it given its at a bar. If you make it and I don't, please post a review. Are you Jeremy? Saw a new ergistrant and assume that's you. I'm Josh - registered on 8/24. |

Re: nyc home games
I'm in Staten Island, willing to play there, in Brooklyn, and in NJ if necessary. I would have myself and my fiance, looking to play for some decent stakes, tournaments preferable. I'd like to find a good game, so hit me up, I've sent a couple of PM's.

Re: nyc home games
I've given up on this thread. I'm looking for a game (and may be moving to an apartment where I could host a game) so if somebody wants a Manhattan/Jersey City/Hoboken/west Brooklyn player please PM me.

Re: nyc home games
There is a thriving low-stakes home game community in Manhattan. Look on CL and you shall find.

Re: nyc home games
I have been contacting my NYS Senator and Assemblyman to push them to legalize Calif style cardrooms so that we can play anytime that we want without going to AC or CT. I hope you do too!
Our politicians know that there is an active underground poker industry in NYC (LI too!)and in an opionion letter written in 1999 on the legality of Turning Stone Casino's poker room by Barry W. Brandon, General Counsel of the State of New York Racing And Wagering Board said as much and added footnotes to NY Times articles verifying it! "There is no serious dispute that poker is played within private homes and public locations throughout the State of New York. We concluded, therefore, that the requirement contained in section 2703(7)(A)(ii), for the game to be “played at any location n the state,” is also satisfied. [3]" Footnote[3] The Oneida Indian Nation submitted evidence to show that poker clubs are operated in the State of New York. According to the submission documents, in New York City, there are dozens of private clubs that offer poker games. See Francis X. Clines, Tell A Lie? No. But Gambling? Count Him In, N.Y. Times, February 20, 1994 at Sec. 1, pg. 39, Column 1. Another recent New York Times article stated, “New Yorkers can play poker . . . in joist around Manhattan that require a membership fee and charge for rent for occupying a chair.” Walter Goodman, My New York; Where Your Destiny Is in Your Hands and the Pot’s the Limit, N.Y. Times, Sept. 26, 1997 at Sec. E, Part 2, Page 45. I would love to go to a nicely lit card room and not worry about being robbed or have to drive 3 hours to play. |
