If the end goal is to get him into NL, why not just start with micro-limit FR NL?

Start him off in the $3.25 Turbo 6-max NL micros, especially if you're going introduce him to NL cash. It will be critical for him to learn shorthanded-endgame play and his experience there will aide him in the $5.50 regs and $6.50 Turbos.

i figure he needs to learn SNGs first just to understand some of the dynamics of aggressive but tight NL play as opposed to just immediately dumping him into NL cash.

also SNGs are fun because they have finish-based performances which is cool for a beginner.

anyways thanks for the suggestions everyone, especially twodimes/pokerstove and the ed miller book.

clayton- as soon as he has any clue at all what he is doing in SNGs (maybe even before that), have him watch "the gift". Im sure someone in this forum has a link to it, please post it for clayton.

I heard Katie Holmes shows her [censored] in that movie and it's spectacular. Solid advice for any wannabe sng pro.
