Re: Greatest Pop / Jazz Standards - Recommendations

Turnip, can you recommend a vocal recording of Shadow of Your Smile? That was my dad's signature piano song, and I'd like to hear it sung. [/ QUOTE ] Sinatra sings it on the album "Sinatra at the Sands." |

Re: Greatest Pop / Jazz Standards - Recommendations
There's a radio station in Phoenix that plays nothing but vocal jazz (except Take 5, by Dave Brubeck, which they played twice in the week I was there. Odd because it is the only non-vocal piece they played. They do venture into new "pop" songs (e.g., they are playing Joss Stone right now). But they mainly play big band jazz vocal standards.
Anway, you can listen to them on-line: http://www.star975fm.com/ |

OP: I'd really recommend picking up some Etta James and Nina Simone. [/ QUOTE ] Nina Simone has some great stuff. Etta James in her earlier years is also a good pick, but later she got into funk and didn't look back. Make sure you know what you're getting into. |
