Re: am i playing too tight? 1st level
its the early stages where the players well um they suk.so his big bet could be alot of things. i interpreted this big bet as strength even though i knew i MAY be ahead. usha i believe said he didnt want a call. correct i guess bc he had ace 9 suited(horrid) and the guy behind me took all his chips bc he had qq and had us both beat!

Re: am i playing too tight? 1st level
Raise preflop. Set mining with JJ is very weak.

Raise preflop. Set mining with JJ is very weak. [/ QUOTE ] playing a big pot against an ep raiser w jj in early going is a mistake in my opinion. will i know if he repops if its ak or qq kk aa? even if he calls it could be qq or aqs. this is a cash game time of the tourney and in a cash game im not repopping jj w several players to act against an ep raiser who ive only played 3 hands against. |

Re: am i playing too tight? 1st level
this is a great hand to either get a big stack or go broke. either result is better than folding. |

why would you put a PSB on this flop with a set? [/ QUOTE ] Because we want to extract the most value and because at this level, people don't mind calling PSB's with weak holdings and draws. Onto the hand. Barring reads, I'd definitely call and give him a chance to hang himself. If you shove you'll only get called by hands that beat you. Overpairs are ze nuts this early in a $5 donkament and I'd never fold JJ here. |

Re: am i playing too tight? 1st level
I play these low stakes MTTs a lot. The first hour is definitely the time to get ahead as the field is about 75% fish who will stack off with top pair no kicker/any pocket pair/flush draw/nothing at all. After that time you will be left with a lot of people who are at least reasonably good, so trying to get 6000+ by end of first hour is the goal I usually go for.
That being said I would reraise this pre flop to 180-210. Depending on how many call I would bet 350-500 on the flop, given those community cards. If I was still facing resistance then I would probably slow down on the turn, and still have 800-900, something you can easily recover from this early. |

wow, your play here explains a lot also sometimes when i see your screenname i read it as "ham [censored]" and i'm like "WTF, that's racialist!" [/ QUOTE ] That essentially means that you are racialist :-O. Ham - It's a $5 tourney, why are you respecting your opponents so much? Also, a little math here helps if you are really that unsure. This bet is, more than anything else, a "protector" bet, meaning, your opponent could very well have 77, 1010 (which he goes AI with), A9 (also might go AI with it). Or it's a "I don't know what to do with AK/AQ" bet, another good reason to AI. Against a range of hands he goes AI with, A9, 1010+, 88, 99, 44, you are 40/60. With 520 in the pot, plus FE you have against AK/AQ/77, this looks like an easy push. If you were against a better opponent who doesn't stack off with 1010 or A9 here (or a LAG who will fire again with AK/AQ), you can just call. But, here, I think pushing is best. Barry |

Re: am i playing too tight? 1st level
By the way Ham how did the rest of the betting go? Did the guy with QQ just move in right there on the flop?
