i don't know what 2Bs are going for in this market, but this sounds awful on the surface...his defense is allright, most notably the DP...his speed is declining and he's not a very balanced/complete hitter...also, there were *allegations* that he was a bad influence on reyes and not really a solid presence in the clubhouse, who knows if there's any truth to that, but just noting reyes went 0-2nd half after castillo (and henderson to be fair) came on board...just saying

aiy, i really wanted to fill this 2B spot from within and see someone (martinez??) eventually get a shot at it in a couple of years, not 4ish

ugh, already aging in the speed area and they make this kind of investment in him??

Signing Silva wouldn't be that bad. I really don't think Silva's such a bad signing in this market.

But Castilla? Yikes.

The only problem I have with resigning Castilla is that I would have liked to see Gotay get a real shot. On the other hand, Willie certainly should know that position and may have real reason to doubt that he will ever be able to handle it defensively.

The money and years are irrelevant to me. Worst that happens is that they end up eating the money down the road. But to be fair, this contract appears in line with the rest of the market right now.
