Green Monster Homerun question

Hi

I have watched the Red Sox since 1973, intially picking up the cable feed out of Bangor, Maine (anyone remember the ads for Stacey's Fuel Mart??). Anyway, over the years I am sure we have all noticed that the green monster has given up home runs that would not have gone out of any other ball park. On the other hand, the monster has "prevented" would-be homeruns as well. We have all seen line drive shots high off the wall that would have been out of most other parks.

What ratio would you estimate the amount of home runs giveun up is to the amount of home runs denied, based on the factors noted above (compared to the average AL ball park).

If there has been any formal studies on this, I couldn't find any of them.

Fenway has an overall hr factor this season of 0.845, so it gives up less homeruns than the major league average. It does however give up tons of doubles, and ranks first in the majors in runs allowed.

What Dudd said - Fenway is a doubes/runs park, not a HR park. that's b/c CF is very deep, and RF is pretty deep + low fence.

LF is relatively easy wrt to hr's.

Thanks but I wasn't looking for that kind of info, just info specific to how green monster gives up and takes away homeruns compared to more distant but shorter LF fences/walls.

While it's clear that Fenway helps doubles and depresses homeruns to a degree, these Park Factor stats are very flawed. Fenway hops all over the place year to year, when it's the same park and same relative park each year. If the Red Sox offense flukily perform much better at home (or start stealing pitches or signing players that do well at Fenway) while the Red Sox defense flukily perform much better on the road then it's going to throw it off by a lot. In terms of RS, Fenway's ranks since 2001 have been: 14, 15, 2, 6, 13, 13, 1. Strangely, Fenway is the most run friendly park in the majors in the same year that the Red Sox lead the league in ERA.
