they either think you are a scumbag for taking money from people, or a liar/degen losing compulsive gambler, or you are just a young punk on a lucky streak or whatever. The only way to win is if you are making obscene money. Most pros aren't

I define pros the way mason does in his poker essays books: If your poker winnings are a substantial portion of your total income.

Most people think of "pros" as something glamorous. Really, they have it backwards. The tv players are all staked/busto/degens/cash donks, and the grinders playing 20/40 are more likely to have it together (even though it's not glamorous and it's unlikely you drive a benzo and drink Cristal like it's water)

Like if someone tells me they are a waiter, I'm not gonna expect them to make 500/night, even though I know some waiters do.

My mediocre winnings make up about 20-30% of my yearly income so far and will probably outlast my typical income which pertains to a [censored] workstudy job for 7 hours a week for chicken feed and some stints being paid very well at a part time jobs netting 1/3 my yearly poker winnings a week.

That said, I tell people I play poker as my biggest hobby and *always* get told, "Quit while you're ahead", "Are you playing for REAL money?", "Be careful". People will always respond the same. Especially people who live with safety nets (which even poker players eventually do; staking, investments, etc. are all safety nets).

My friends at college remember when I was struggling with 50 dollars. Most of them have totally dropped the questions and are more interested in my progress than why it's a risk.

Problem with this thread is that there are always a ton of follow up questions. Equity Analyst sounds good, someone is obv going to say, so whats that?

Please spare the "I analyze equity" responses.

Sorry if this is too serious for this thread.
