I only started a little under a year ago so I can't comment on what the standard of play is like in comparison to before.
But I'll tell you one thing that is making playing poker profitably more difficult.
If you're European, the fall of the dollar against the Euro is really brutal.
When I first deposited in November last year the exchange rate was $1.26 = 1 Euro. Now it's $1.40 = 1 Euro.

At first it seems great that you can play poker and speak to REAL PEOPLE at the same time.

It doesn't take long before your only thought about live poker will be "screw those degens."

You know, being a winning poker player really takes something extreme and under 1% of all players actually use poker to supliment their income ... and now post Frist 50NL is the 400NL of last year ... the games have become impossible, blimey uNL has gotten a BBV thread, so I can't spam the brew no more ... ohhhh sucks

[/ QUOTE ]

Games are tougher than ever right now IMO, NL$25 plays like NL$200 or NL$600 if your comparing it to the early days.

When you see uNL discussing value bets, ranges, 3betting light, range and other more advanced concepts you can tell the games have got tougher.

I don't know if people can do a "ABA" or a "CTS" and run through the stakes as fast now days either. The winrates IMO have dropped, but poker isnt dying.

WSOP, EPT and other tourneys continue to draw in new players with dreams.

Bad tags continue to grind, taking from the worse fish and giving to the better tags or redepositing using their rakeback.

Alot of 2p2 members dont actually want to improve, well they do but not if they have to work hard.

So the games will probably be beatable for a while, im not sure poker will ever become a -EV game at low levels.

I think gambling addicts, rich people, young college kids and bonuses will keep the games playable.

However the great times, where you could fly up and get rich are gone - I kick myself daily for not taking advantage of the 2006 games

I'm not one for regrets but this is the one that I too do have.
