I'm not yet at a buyin where I'm playing the same people everyday. And the regulars I do play seem to either want to shove or fold preflop.

I've also encountered a fair number of opponents who vastly overbet the pots in 3bet pots to commit themselves w/ draws (from as weak as gutterball+overcard to oesfd type hands) on the flop.

I have and do call them, but with decreasing regularity these days. It's almost always the nuts or near nuts in lower stake games.

I wanted to add something...

Let's say you're IP, you raise OTB BB 3bets, you call.

Villain pots flop, you call... I see villains here push the turn as an overbet (generally 1.5 x pot)... this bet is rarely even close to the nuts and is generally air.

i usualy overbet strong hands in limped pots against weak players with calling-station-tendencies. Does not happen very often, but for example:

i have 22 on the BB
SB calls
i check

Pot is 40

Flop: 2 7 8, two suits

i bet 120

If he's got nothing at all, he folds, even to a 40 bet.
If he has a draw or a pair, he's gonna call anyways, so why let him do it cheap?

Most of them release their hand on the turn when facing a bigger bet, so i almost only do this on the flop.

Problem is, you're not getting calls here as much from top pair, mid pair, etc. If you're playing low-limits then this works better but you're losing value if you are doing this at the 100's and up too often.

Schpacko, you might run into problems against good players when you start stealing with 30 chip sized bets and you bet 3x the pot with good hands.

The overbet much more effective with a lot of chips already invested in the pot as a way to look like you are buying the pot.

Exceptions of course are listed in Strassa's thread, when you play people you've played a lot of times. This doesn't happen often for 90% of the forum.

Overbetting often works again bad players, they mostly think its a bluff and call with middlepairs.

And overbetting gives you often a better EV than betting small, cause even when you get called 50 percent less, your making more money, because the bet is so much higher.

but the overbet only works if your oponent is at least a bit pot comitted.

agreed, usually they jam feeling that they have at least 6 outs, unless they are trying to rep the turn - here they can have fewer outs ldo.

- but yeah i've encountered this alot, usually its when they know you're calling 3bets light.

Overbets are owning me today. Keep check calling boards where they should miss a ton and bluff out and keep getting overbet river owned.
