Re: Peter Luger\'s TR (Brooklyn)
It's pretty good, definitely worth the trip and expense. It's not the best steak I've ever had, though.

[ QUOTE ] bacon. . .you missed the bacon. next time, get 1.5 orders for the table. 4 people means 6 orders of bacon. [/ QUOTE ] QFT. Trip is a failure without a bacon appetizer -- at least one strip per person. (And for you non-Lugerites, a strip of bacon is not always a strip of bacon.) [/ QUOTE ] I agree - you must get the bacon. And although Lugar's is pretty good I think it's overrated - plenty of places just as good or better in Manhattan (Strip House, Dylan Prime, Del Friscos) |

[ QUOTE ] is this place really that good? my chef buddy went there and said he was underwhelmed, which caused me to avoid it. [/ QUOTE ] Here is a sample menu Steak some sides that is all [/ QUOTE ] Actually, asking for a menu is a dead giveaway that you are a tourist or a woman. Order: Porterhouse (for 2, 3, 4, etc) -- Rare of Course. Bacon App Tomato and Onion App Shrimp App (optional) Potato side Creamed Spinach side Other Veggie side (optional) A variety of desserts (all good) with schlag. |

[ QUOTE ] is this place really that good? my chef buddy went there and said he was underwhelmed, which caused me to avoid it. [/ QUOTE ] You have to appreciate it for what it is. Most chefs are going to stick their nose up at it due to the relatively simplicity of the menu. But what they do, they do very well IMO. I've been there twice, and for me, I enjoy the atmosphere, the old bar, the cold cold Brooklyn Lagers, and of course the steaks. If you go expecting Craftsteak or Delmonicos types of experiences, you'll be disappointed. Doesn't mean that one is necessarily better than the other overall though. [/ QUOTE ] he's really not the type to stick his nose up at simplicity. he appreciates meals for what they are. he was just underwhelmed, and didn't think it was all that great. |

Re: Peter Luger\'s TR (Brooklyn)
The problem is that Peter Luger is built up by some people as blowing all other places away. If you just go in there expecting to eat some very good food, you will not be disappointed.

My understanding is that Great Neck is not as good for some reason (I have never eaten at the Great Neck location). |

Re: Peter Luger\'s TR (Brooklyn)
Thanks UE. I live about 2 hrs upstate and we are looking at bringing the family down there for a 'greatest steak dinner ever' trip. I was thinking one of the Manhattan places but I love the Brooklyn Lager so we might have to add Luger's to the list.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, bacon is key along with the spinach. Funny to see there's always a few people who say, 'my buddy went there and he said he didn't like it ldo.' It simply dominates the Zagat rankings every single year, and is way, better than any Morton's, Ruth's, Delmonico's chains. |
