Default I need a Omaha Hi/Lo question Answered.

I'm at my weekly home game right now, we usually play NLHE but today we're playing Omaha Hi/Lo.

Me and another player bet $20 on which hand is better preflop, i.e. will win more money heads-up against one another if we ran it 100 times

AA99
AJ23 double suited

Please settle this argument for us, we have $20 on it. Thanks.

The exact number depends on the exact suits.

gettym - AJ23 double suited is a better hand than AA99, heads up, even if both are double suited, but it's closer than I thought it would be.

[/ QUOTE ]That's about what I get if the AA99 hand is a rainbow. (52.1% to 47.9%).

If both are double suited in mutually exclusive suits, I have it about 50.2% for AJ23 double suited and 49.8% for AA99 double suited.

As you add more players, AJ23 double suited is much better.

In Omaha-high-only, AA99 would be the better starting hand of the two.

Otherwise they are even.

PLO8FaceKilla - It's close to a coin flip if they're playing heads-up, but if you add more opponents (with unknown hands), the A23J-double-suited hand is the better starting hand, and by a considerable margin.

There are a lot of times when AA99 would be good that you couldn't possibly show it down in an actual game. This is kind of like 22 vs AK in LHE. 22 is a favorite PF, but AK is going to make up for it by winning on scary boards (stuff like QJ9-X-X) if there's any postflop betting.

Donger - Good point.

How to play hands and how well various hands fare depends very much on the type of game you're in and upon your opponents.

I'm naturally approaching questions from a fixed-limit point of view.

The casino games in which I play are such that I'll be delighted to see and play AA99 double suited, and I'll almost certainly see the flop with AA99-rainbow. I might or might not raise before the flop with either hand. (That choice is almost entirely opponent and positional dependent for me).
