who wouldnt want health insurance?

[/ QUOTE ]

Anybody with a big enough bankroll to not want to make a -EV decision because he's averse to variance.

Its not that simple. Health Insurance companies by in bulk. The whole system is set up so you basically can't be self insured. As someone who is against insurance on principle (it is -EV) I find this annoying.

Edwards Backs Mandatory Preventive Care

``It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care,'' he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. ``If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK.''

This dude is S C A R Y. Talk about a power grap and the potential for abusing power. Is this even constitutional? The lawyers who read this forum should be able to shed some light. I assume that there's a penalty for not showing up for your check ups. What would it be? Jail? Pay a fine??? Booted out of the system? WTF????

Edwards said his mandatory health care plan would cover preventive, chronic and long-term health care. The plan would include mental health care as well as dental and vision coverage for all Americans.

Mandatory mental health check ups???? Probably not but maybe but if not the door is certainly open.

This is an idea from a Democrat that has a great deal of potential to do a lot of harm IMO. Unbelievable really.

-----> mandatory mental health checkups -----> mandatory mental health treatments

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you trying to imply that there is something wrong with mandatory mental health treatment? Mentally unstable people are a drain on society (not to mention the fact that most of them use illegal drugs) and have to be dealt with for the benefit of the productive, loyal citizens. Besides, you don't have anything to worry about unless you're unhinged yourself, so why don't you chill out? You don't have trouble managing your anger do you?

[/ QUOTE ]

Is this post supposed to be ironic?

The most effective way to ensure that preventative becomes a measurable factor in your health plan is to completely deregulate the health insurance industry.

All Edwards has to do is eliminate all health care regulations and we'd see more people covered than ever before, and their premiums would be highly correlated to their risk profile.

Those who don't want to exercise or eat their veggies could choose to pay more for higher-risk coverage.

If you're against insurance why do you care? Just don't buy any.

Oh, and by the way there is nothing "principled" about having an individual risk tolerance that places low cost on risk. That's like saying you're against Wendy's on principle because you prefer McDonald's hamburgers.

All insurances arent -EV for everyone, but the point of insurance isnt EV anyway, its variance.

Of course, anybody who thinks there's something wrong with the governments policies is mentally ill, and needs "treatment" to cure their delusional thinking. That couldn't happen, could it? Hint: See Soviet Union.

Is mandatory mental health checkup really a part of the proposal? Is there some aspect of mental health issues that makes them "preventible"?

As much as Im against UHC, this line strikes me as a strawman.
