Default Bad Play by AA?

Fairly deep in MTT, down to around 170 players. I am somewhere around 20th in chips with a little more than double the average stack.

In the small blind I only CALL the cut-off raise, with the intent to keep the BB in the hand. But, my gut tells me whenever this situation comes up I should push PF.

Now we can say that after I called when the flop came all clubs I could have played much better post flop and I agree. I can see that if I played after the flop differently I MIGHT (unlikely) have still taken this down; but right now I am only asking about PF.

So the poll question is Should I have just called the button raise, or pushed? (let's forget a re-raise less than AI for now)

Why RR AI, why not just RR to 15K? Post-flop is just typical frustrated AA spew.

I vomited all over my screen when I read this post.

??? How can you forget a reraise less than AI for now. You are playing big stack poker not small stack poker, and you have a monster preflop. You need to reraise the button to 12000 +/-2000, giving the line that A he has a hand that he would like to push preflop, or B he puts you on a resteal considering that you are putting him on a normal button steal.

By just calling you put the BB in a great position of calling with any reasonable hand, and giving you ZERO information on what he has.

Best play raising to 12000 +/- 2000 > worse play but yet light years ahead of just calling pushing all in, at least calling is better than folding.

I just can't see pushing here as more EV than raising, (and it seems like you don't even consider a raise here at all based on your poll). You have an M 27.8 (didn't see any ante amount given), I just can't see why raising to 12000 or a similar amount didn't pop in your head. You are far from a small stack.

I agree completely, and it was indeed my first inclination to either push or re-raise. I am convinced that had I done so the BB would fold and the original raiser would indeed have pushed the rest of his chips in.
Fancy play syndrome that NEVER should have happened!

Thanks for the response.

Message is coming thru very loud.
$14K should have been the re-pop and then I got only one player who has to get very lucky.

calling is awful. one reason is your position is awful. raise a lot but not all-in. how about making it 20k to go.

I don't think the flat call preflop is bad, its a good way to entice a squeeze from the BB, but you have to have the dicipline to lay down AA if the flop texture and betting patterns aren;t in your favor, and this is a horrible flop for 2 red aces.

horrible play, 3-bet pf your aces, your stack is so deep that you are giving him great chance to hit big and bust your aces. Like obviously did. Also you invite BB to pot with any marginal hand that can beat you. If these dont hit hard you win a small pot ESPECIALLY when you are out of position, if they hit hard you lose big pot. On flop you should just bet out normal amount, not push all in. Bet about 10k so you wont seem scared of this flop. If he pushes all in you have decision but I think it is fold.
