Re: 2/4 Stud hi fine laydown?
When it seems fairly obvious the villian is chasing to a flush, or straight for that matter, you should just check/call the river unless you got a read. If your betting the river for value you got to think what worse of a hand will he call with. If he calls with two small pair, then bet...if not always check/call. This way you might induce a bluff if he missed and thus you got the value you wanted and you don't lose a bet to a raise when your behind. You also can gain valuable information if he just checks behind by seeing what his starting hand was.

Re: 2/4 Stud hi fine laydown?
When you have a hand like two pair here, checking behind is correct because your opponent is not going to call with one pair or with busted draws since villian put you on a minimum of high pair. Checking behind also keeps you from paying off flushes and straights.

Re: 2/4 Stud hi fine laydown?
You can't induce a bluff in position, but checking behind looks palatable here. If your opponent never check/raises the river, this is definitely a bet, though.

Re: 2/4 Stud hi fine laydown?
You played it fine until the end. If the other guy is reasonable, then his most likely hand is a flush draw. If that's what he's on and he doesn't have anything else going for him, then your bet can't make any money. He won't pay off with a worse hand, and he'll check-raise your sorry ass when he makes his flush. Now he might well back into two small pair, and he might even pay off with one pair, so it's not like your bet has no value. By checking behind, you do eliminate the risk of being bluffed off of the best hand. On balance, I prefer a check. Some LHE types are fascinated with betting and folding to a raise. It has its place, but you don't have to make that many incorrect folds for it to be unprofitable.

[/ QUOTE ] Lol...yeah I guess your right. Don't know how I misread that one. Either way, what I was saying was in general if someone is chasing and your leading you should "most of the time" check/call the river. This spot is a definite check behind though. |

Re: 2/4 Stud hi fine laydown?
I definitely bet this river. Granted his most likely hand is a flush draw, however he picked up OPs Q on 4th and that will make many players call with as little as 1 pair on the end.

Re: 2/4 Stud hi fine laydown?
I like the bet on the river--your 2 pair is pretty well hidden. (actually I like c/c here better if your opponent will bet a lower 2 pair/bluff thinking you didn't make 2 pair) Unless opponent has bizarre river raise tendencies I think you've got to fold to the river raise. If he is weak (in terms of betting two pair himself) on rivers I like a bet better. Good old opponent dependent action for me here.

Re: 2/4 Stud hi fine laydown?
I call the raise due to the size of the pot. You are calling 1BB into a 9.69BB pot. That means you only have to win >9.3% of the time to be profitable.
I would only fold this against the nittiest of nits. If you make a habit of doing this (folding to a raise on 7th), people will notice and will brutalize you. |

The Q of spades = bet/call.
